Update: TxDMV Board Action on Texas ID Requirements- February 13, 2026 

The TxDMV Board approved amendments yesterday related to personal identification requirements for vehicle registration and renewal.

Among the changes, the implementation of the new renewal-related ID requirements is now scheduled for January 1, 2027, providing additional time ahead of implementation.

TxDMV has not yet released the final detailed guidance. TIADA is reviewing the approved materials with a focus on how these changes affect real-world dealership transactions and day-to-day operations.

Until additional guidance is published, dealers should continue following the current direction from their local county tax offices.

TIADA will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
